Fun Halloween Party Game Ideas

Updated on June 21, 2016

Make your next Halloween party a hit with these great spooky game ideas.

Ghoulish Gallery- Halloween Feel Box Ideas

This one is more of a halloween party activity than a game. Put various items in jars, bowls or another suitable container. Make it so that the participant can't see what is really in the box, either by blindfolding them or putting a cloth over the container. Put their hand in, and tell them what they're touching- lying to make it spooky and halloween themed, of course. Here are some ideas of what to put in the jars to get you started. See what other ones you can come up with!

Source
  • cooked spaghetti- guts
  • boiled egg- dragon eyes
  • mashed up jelly with pumpkin seeds- brains
  • boiled baby carrots- fingers
  • rice- maggots
  • water- blood
  • raisins- warts

Halloween Charades

Charades is a great party game because it's easy to understand the rules, is suitable for any number of people and any age group. The rules are simple: put simply, one person must act out an idea, and the rest have to try and guess what is being acted out. It can be tailored to any theme by simply choosing appropriate words to act out. Click here for a list of halloween themed words!

Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin

This is just like the traditional "pin the tail on the donkey" kids game, with a halloween twist! Blindfold each player when it is their turn, spin them around three times and then direct them to the poster of the pumpkin on the wall. They must try and stick the nose as close as possible to where it is actually meant to go. The person at the end of the game with their nose the closest wins!
Other spooky variations could include:

  • pin the wart on the witch
  • pin the smile on the jack-o-lantern
  • pin the nose on the witch
  • pin the mouth on the ghost

Different possible ways to set up this game include:

  • find a suitable picture on the internet, and print it on a big piece of paper
  • make your own picture, with textas or contruction paper (if you use construction paper, try to make sure nobody can feel the lines to get to the right spot!
  • purchase the game

Dress the Mummy

Divide the players into teams, and give each team some toilet paper and a small amount of sticky tape. Each team must dress up one member of their team like a mummy. The fastest team to do so wins!

Halloween Word Hunt

Come up with a big, Halloween themed word such as Halloween, trick-or-treat, haunted house, spider web, skeleton, witchcraft, jack-o'-lantern, phantom, Frankenstein or tombstone. All players must try to find as many smaller words that are at least 3 letters long within that big word as possible before time runs out.

Suggested time: 2 minutes
For example for "Halloween", you may find: hall, won, well, new, hello, hallow and so on.

Pumpkin Pinata

Another classic party game with a halloween twist! Look in party stores for a suitable pinata, or you can try making your own, using Paper Mache.

Wink Murder

All players sit in a circle and must draw out a slip of paper from a hat. All the pieces of paper say "P" except for two. One of those three says "M", and the other says "I". Nobody reveals what they got, except for the person who drew the "I". They are the investigator and must sit in the middle of the circle. The person who drew "M" is the murderer. They must "kill" the other players by winking at them. Once a person has been winked at, they must die in a dramatic way within 30 seconds, such as screaming. The investigator must figure out who the murderer is before it's too late! But he must be careful, as he can only guess once and if he guesses wrong the murderer wins. The murderer wins the round when there is nobody left.

Alternatively, you can play where there is no detective, and all the players have to try to guess who the murderer is.

Zombie Chasey

One person starts off as "it", and must tag another player. Once they have tagged another player, they become a "retired zombie"- they are still "it" and must still try to tag others, but they are only allowed to walk (no running), must keep their hands out in zombie position, and must make zombie noises. The game continues with each "it" person not running any more and becoming a retired zombie once they tag someone else. The last human wins!
