How To Create A Free Webpage With NO Technological Skills or Ads!

By

Ever wanted to share with the world a website, created about your favourite hobby? Or open an online store, to sell your products to the entire world?

Many websites such as freewebs offer to host a website for you, but by the time they finish putting all their ads on, you can hardly see your content anymore! This article explains how you can get an easy to remember website address, and a great website with no ads! Absolutely FREE!

Step One
Sign up with Yola at http://www.yola.com/
Now, please note that while Yola are very light on the advertising, and don't clutter your page with google ads, your website will not be completely free of ads.

So to show you, last night I whipped up a little site. I have included a screenshot below of the discreet button they include at the bottom of their pages. Also, if you follow this guide you will have to add another piece of advertising somewhere on your main page: the freedomain.co.nr button. This is optional, and once again quite unobtrusive. You can even get it in different colours to match your site!

Step Two: Design Your Website
Yola has made it very easy to design a website, this bit you should have no problem with. Just choose a background style, then start adding content!

Yola lets you add pictures, text, files, column dividers, google widgets, youtube videos, mp3 players, flickr galleries, forums, forms, appointment books, google maps, google adsense, product catalogs, and you can even ask visitors for donations using paypal!

Step Three: Publish Your Website!
Once again, Yola makes this ridiculously easy. Just click a button and it's done! But at the moment, your website address is something messy, like www.doctorkristy.yolasite.com. Which doesn't look very good, and it is, in my opinion, Yola's only shortcoming. But it's okay. In the next step, we'll fix it.

Step Four: Go to http://www.freedomain.co.nr
This is a website that will let you get a web address that ends in .co.nr, for example www.doctorkristy.co.nr, and they then link it up to your yola page, so that whenever somebody types into the web address bar "doctorkristy.co.nr", it automatically puts them on your yola webpage. The .co.nr sounds more professional and is easier to remember.

However, freedomain.co.nr does require you to link back using one of their buttons on your homepage. But their logo is small and like I said, comes in many different colours to match your website.

HTML Tricks

Sometimes it's nice to have a fancy thing or two. The easiest way to do these are using HTML, which can be used on Yola by clicking the HTML button under "basic" on the right hand toolbar.

<MARQUEE>
Hi There!
</MARQUEE>

This code creates a scrolling effect, and the text scrolls along the page. To edit the text, change where it says "Hi there!" to whatever text you want.

<MARQUEE>
<IMG SRC="http://www.sxc.hu/pic/m/t/to/topsoft/1164538_eastern_background.jpg">
</MARQUEE>

This code is like the first, but instead of making text scroll, it makes an image scroll! To choose an image, just replace "http://www.sxc.hu/pic/m/t/to/topsoft/1164538_eastern_background.jpg" with the web address of your own image.

To view an image's address, you can right click it and select "open image in new tab".

Hello & Welcome! Great hub. I learned a bunch. I am checking out some of your links next. Oh yeah, there is a chain looking thingy in the text box at the upper right corner. You can use it to embed your URL links to a word. And, I am recommending yola to my sister-in-law. She is a school district superintendent. Again Welcome!

A very interesting hub. I have not heard of yola before. I will have to look at it.

Glad you liked it, homesteadbound! It's definitely worth a look, since they are one of the few that put no ads (aside from their logo at the very bottom) on your webpage.

Let me know if you ever do get a site with them up and running, I'd love to have a look!
